
Dr. R. Eugene Turner
Dr. R. Eugene Turner
is an internationally recognized coastal and fisheries ecologist, know for his
work on wetlands and environmental conservation. He is a Distinguished Professor of
Environmental Studies at the Coastal Ecology Institute, Louisiana State
University. He received a B.A. degree from Monmouth College,
a M.S. degree in Biology from Drake University, and a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Georgia.
He is widely respected as a leader in the scientific aspects of coastal
environmental management, especially for his work on the low oxygen zone off
the Mississippi River. He serves on several national level
scientific committees and is Honorary Editor-in-Chief of Wetlands Ecology and
Management. His research contributions
have been widely recognized with the 1998 National Wetland Award, the 1999 Blasker Award for Science and Engineering, and many other
distinctions.
