The Soil and Landscape Analysis Laboratory supports innovative research activities that focus on spatial analysis of natural resources. The computer hardware and software housed within the lab provide valuable tools for students, faculty, and research staff to study the spatial dynamics of soil science, climatology, and hydrology. The lab maintains detailed state-wide and field research site spatial databases of natural resource information that include soils, terrain, and landscape information at multiple scales. The lab is at the center of a departmental software alliance that allows users access to multiple GIS and remote sensing software packages at a reduced cost. Our users include students, faculty, and research staff that work on a variety of projects throughout soil, water, and climatic disciplines. The goals of the Soil and Landscape Analysis Laboratory are to: Examples of the services and functions that the laboratory can provide include: Spatial Data Collection Spatial Data Analysis Data ProductsHardware Spatial/Terrain Analysis, Remote Sensing, Image Analysis, and Web Software Database Management and Statistical Software Spatial analysis is common to many fields of study and can frequently serve as the focal point for multi-disciplinary studies. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to consider the need for spatial analysis in their work and are invited to become involved with the lab. Students, faculty or staff with needs for spatial data analysis should contact Dr. Jay Bell or Joel Nelson.General questions about the facilities can be directed to slal@tc.umn.edu |
